25 AUG – 1 SEP 2024 | MELT- the e-mergence of practice
with Vasiliki Tsagkari
“Revolutionary consciousness is to be found among the most ruthlessly exploited
masses: animals, trees, water, air, grasses” ~ Gary Snyder
Could I cultivate the intelligence of the body, through the observation of patterns in nature?
Can I absorb information for dance technique through the soil, the air, the plants and animals?
How, in this way, I experientially understand the body’s anatomy, alignment, imagination and functionality?
Working with perception, sometimes focusing in or sometimes widening our attention we seek to sense the proportions and analogies that create the radiance of dance. In this way we begin to compose a practice field where dance could possibly occur as a natural phenomenon, a result of relationships and influctuations, somewhere in-between different entities and environments coming together.
MELT is an attempt for several different materials to meet and merge. The study of Permaculture, Skinner Releasing Technique of Joan Skinner, physical work in farming, ecosomatic practices, are some elements that are brought together , along with an intention to play and experiment , creating a space of inquiry for the pedagogy of dance.
Could we approach the pedagogy of dance through a sense of humbleness?
Could dance e-merge from the ground and spread across the fabrication of our individualities?
Along these lines MELT evolves to investigate the vibrant and ever-changing field of practice.
Through shaping and reshaping, merging, digesting and composting, MELT initiates processes of defining dance practice, creating practices and updating them in an attempt to explore the e-merge-nce of practice.
Participants will work to generate their own practices, as processes where everyday becoming meets the dynamics of creativity. By means of movement, writing, drawing, discussion, we will look for ways to navigate through something that may remain undetermined and mysterious.
How do I assemble, alternate, distill, read with my body the images that awaken my poetic curiosity?
How these images can become seeds that fertilise the body and its imagination and keep it fertile?
How do we create new vocabularies?
What e-merges as the old ones melt away?
Dance liquifies and becomes recomposed , as a place of intimacy and at the same time discourse , where different realities dance and melt together.
We will sometimes work with the wild, outdoors, in the surroundings of Paleochori , and sometimes on the platform.
Participants will need comfortable clothes, shoes that allow them to move with rock and soil, a hat and water bottle.
Vasiliki Tsagkari has been working on her own dance pedagogy, MELT, since 2022. She is a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique (introductory) since 2017.

All Unplugged Dance workshops are open to everyone who wants to meet, share, dance and self-explore through movement and creative process. There is no need for previous experience in dance classes, although if there is one, it is welcome.
