Lefkada is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea located on the West Coast of Greece, connected to the mainland with a bridge. It is famous worldwide for its stunningly beautiful beaches with transparent, turquoise waters, combined with the rich flora covering the mainland.
You can find below some useful information on how you can get to the island of Lefkada.
How to Get to Neohori
1. Arriving by Plane
The nearest airport to Lefkada city is Preveza-Aktion (PVK), just 25 minutes away by car.
• Taxi Option: Upon arrival, you can take a taxi to Lefkada city (€40). We can assist in arranging one if requested at least 4 days in advance.
• Budget Option: Take a bus from the airport to Lefkada city (€3).
From Lefkada city, we arrange a mini bus that will transport the entire group to Neohori village.
If you are flying into Athens International Airport (ATH):
• Take a bus from Athens’ KTEL bus station to Lefkada (€70 round trip, ~5-hour journey).
• From Athens Airport, take bus X93 or a taxi to the KTEL bus terminal (Kifissou St. 100).
From Lefkada city, we arrange a mini bus for the group to Neohori village.
2. Other Travel Options to Lefkada city
• Thessaloniki Airport (SKG): There is only one bus per day from Thessaloniki to Lefkada.
• Nearby Ionian Islands (Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca): You can take a boat to Lefkada, but departures are not daily.
• From Italy: You can take a ferry to Igoumenitsa, then a bus from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada (not daily departures).
3. Driving to Lefkada
Lefkada is accessible by car, connected to the mainland via a 50-meter floating bridge. The first town you reach by entering the island is Lefkada city, the capital and main town of the island of Lefkada, located in its northern and northeastern part. From there, you can easily find the village Neohori which is located above Nidri (east side), after the village of Paleokatouna (Agios Christophoros in google maps). The duration is approximately 25-30 minutes away from the town.
⚠️ When navigating, set your GPS to:
→ Agios Christophoros (Paleokatouna) village instead of Neohori to avoid incorrect routes.
• From Paleokatouna, follow the signs uphill to Neohori.
Cars can reach Paleohori art-space up to a point, however it is a dirt road.
Arrival in Neohori Village
Upon arrival in Neohori with the group minibus or with your own car, a team member will welcome you at arranged time.
🚶♀️ Important: Since our venue is off-grid, taxis and minibuses cannot drive directly there. A 20-minute walk is required to reach the venue, so please arrive on time.
👜 We can provide some help with some of your luggages, however we definitely suggest you to avoid bringing a suitcase, but to prefer a backpack that you are able to carry instead! Remember, you are in nature, and most routes in the village are rocky!
📲 For smooth transfers, we create a WhatsApp group before arrival to coordinate transport.
🚕 Due to high demand, book taxis at least 4 days in advance.

Where: Paleohori Art-Space, Neohori, Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece
Deadline for applications:Applications are reviewed monthly until all spots are filled.
How to apply: Apply by submitting the following google form https://forms.gle/Uw2uzAnJsmuaoHdj6
We are thrilled to announce the 4th edition of Unplugged Dance, a 7-week residential dance education program designed to encourage deep personal and collective learning in the fields of dance and somatic practices. Running from May to June 2025, this program offers participants the opportunity to engage in a holistic exploration of dance through contemporary methods that promote agency while cultivating an environment of collective care.
Our approach derives from a desire to experience dance in concepts and ways that don’t restrict themselves in movement aesthetics or technics, but neither condemns them. Instead further explores dance as a powerful mechanism for reaching the world within and the world around us. A time nurturing program for self and collective awareness that encourages participants to take responsibility for their own learning, make decisions, and shape their personal practice.
By creating a space where every participant feels seen, heard, and valued, we cultivate an environment that promotes mutual respect and encourages individuals to grow in a collective spirit. Through a balance of personal practice and collective inquiry, participants will have the space to deepen their own processes or even systematize their work in relation to movement and the art of dance.
What to expect
Unplugged Dance 2025 offers a blend of structured and organic learning through:
- Experiential Workshops: Led by international facilitators, these sessions explore the relationship between body awareness and creative expression through dance improvisation, experiential anatomy, theory and critical thinking. Their orientation is dance experience as a field of observation, experimentation and creativity. Their methods are drawing from student-centered teaching methodologies and employing teaching tools such as: verbal guided improvisation through visualization and somatic imagery; scores; kinesthetic instructions; sensorial explorations; hands-on practices; playful explorations through props; drawing and vocal activation for body awareness. Also: shared feedback in a non-judgmental environment; individual reflective processes like journaling, automatic writing, or sensory mapping aimed at feeding back into and dialoguing with the dance practice, and more.
- Seminars and open discussions: Specialized seminars on theory, somatics, anatomy, dramaturgy, performance and more. Open questions on the philosophical, political and socio-cultural relevance, such as;
⋗How can we create Dance through the prism of embodiment?
⋗Why choose this approach to dance?
⋗How can a dance method encourage agency, empowerment, and creative expression?
⋗How does this approach shift the relationship with an audience?
⋗How can practices of embodiment influence the socio political aspect of dance?
⋗What kind of work ethics do we want to cultivate in the dance professional field?
⋗How agency and collective care work together to create a space that is not only about personal growth but also about building stronger, more connected communities through dance? and many more.
⋗What is the significance of method, methodology, practice, research, and pedagogy in dance?
⋗How can I systematize my personal practice to share it with others?
… and more
- Early morning soft awakening practices: Facilitated sessions for gentle awakening of the body and conditioning, such as Yoga, Pilates, breathwork, conscious movement practices, etc.
- Personal and Collective Integration Time: Opportunities to reflect, connect, and grow through heart circles, feedback sessions and group sharings. 50h of scheduled time for self-practice and research alone-together on the platform.
- Mentoring: Three 3h scheduled mentoring sessions with any of the program’s teachers.
- Shared living space:
One of the aspects that makes this program so unique is the way we share time and space. The location and geography of Paleochori that hosts the program, encourages communal exchange and collaboration. There are shared responsibilities for maintenance of the space, shared cozy accommodation & meals.
Who Is It For?
This year’s program is seeking individuals who are ready to commit to a deeper learning and research process. It is open to both professionals and non-professionals with an interest in dance, movement, and somatic practices. Specifically, it is an ideal opportunity for:
Professionals in Performance, Dance, or Visual Arts: Individuals with years of experience who are interested in informing their personal practices with experiential anatomy, body awareness, and self-regulation tools and exploring their work through the lens of embodiment, with a focus on qualities such as self-reflection, observation, non-goal orientation, and care.
Recent Graduates: Artists who have recently completed a formal education and are seeking a nourishing, empowering community to reveal their inner core and systematize their own personal practices into educational or creative methods, while meeting, connecting, exploring and sharing into a vibrant, non-institutional community.
Dance Therapists & Somatics Practitioners: Individuals who wish to expand their practices into a creative process informed by contemporary artistic methods and creative tools.
Critical Thinkers: Those looking to engage in meaningful discussions on methodology, pedagogy, dance dramaturgy through the prism of embodiment and the socio-political dimensions of dance.
Program Structure

Everyone in this program will share one hour of communal maintenance work in the space daily, like hand-watering plants, compost and communal space care. These communal work activities not only help maintain common spaces, but also deepen participants’ engagement with the environment and each other. By incorporating them into our daily rhythm, we share a sense of responsibility while nourishing creativity and sustainability.
What Unplugged Dance is about
In Unplugged Dance we choose to emphasize the importance of embodiment in dance education, research and choreography, in order to approach dance in a more open and inclusive way related to self-determination, empowerment and expression. Such an approach is more than a need to escape from instructions or an image-orientated approach. It is a way to sharpen the ability to listen to yourself through listening to your body. A dance -metaphorically and literally speaking- beyond the pursuit of a perfect form, that serves a liberating process of acceptance and joy.
In a more and more goal-oriented world, where dance appears mostly as a skill acquisition, competition and continuous struggle for achievement, we suggest dance as a space of collectively cultivating our agency; agency, not as an individualistic action, but instead, as a practice of collective care, recognizing the impact our choices have within a collective, while taking ownership of our personal journey. As we deepen our self-awareness and creative expression, we simultaneously strengthen our capacity to engage meaningfully with others and create respectful and honest bonds.
While Unplugged Dance does not follow a traditional educational structure, it provides a deep, immersive experience that empowers each participant to bloom at their own pace while contributing to the collective learning process. Non-formal education allows for flexibility, creativity, and personal agency—qualities that we see as essential for exploring dance as a tool for self-awareness and collective engagement.

Deadline extended | Job offer | Open call for workshops | Unplugged Dance | August - September 2023
8.12.2022
We are looking forward to meeting our new team of collaborators for the second expanded edition of the Unplugged Dance educational program!
Where: Neochori, Lefkada, Greece
When: 7 days between July 31 – Sep 24, 2023
Deadline for applications: December 7, 2022
This call is addressed to dance artists/educators interested in leading a workshop that approaches dance as a practice of embodiment and emerges from personal research.
Candidates must have an original practice/method/technique of their own to share in the form of an open level workshop for professionals and non-professionals. This year, with an intention to deepen more in our quest of how we can experience dance while enriching it with the qualities of somatic practices, we are broadening the spectrum by looking not only for educators but also for choreographers, dance artists and healers. Our interest lies in approaching qualities such as exploration of the soma (body) as perceived from within, observation, care, acceptance, self-reflection, non-goal orientation, non-hurry and non-interventionism, through different paths related to dance. Candidates, depending on their subject of interest, may focus more on one of the following:
performative practices that examine the subjective realities of the dancing body /
self-exploring and creative processes /
healing through dance.
In any case, your work must have already been presented in the form of a workshop, a research and/or a performance.
In Unplugged Dance we choose to emphasize on the importance of embodiment in dance education, research and choreography, in order to approach dance in a more open and inclusive way that can relate to self-determination, empowerment and expression. Such an approach is more than a need to escape from instructions or an image orientated approach. It is a way to strengthen the ability of listening to yourself through listening to your body. A dance -metaphorically and literally speaking- beyond the pursuit of a perfect form, that serves a liberating process of acceptance and joy. Our intention is to meet and highlight dance methods or techniques that may exist around the world and approach dance as a practice of embodiment.
We provide:
-Payment of 720 euros
-Accommodation in bell tent (with bed) and meals per day
-A part of travel expenses for teachers coming from abroad can be paid after arrangement
Requirements:
-Leading a workshop in English for six days (a total of 16,5 hours) during July 31 to September 24, 2023. The week will be determined in mutual consultation
-We will need an invoice from your business entity in order to pay for your services.
To apply:
Please send via email at unpluggedopencall@gmail.com :
-Your CV / bio
-Text (pdf), photos (attached), video link and any other info you prefer in order to present your workshop
-Small summary (pdf), 3-9 photos and a portrait of yourself (attached) as well as video link of your workshop, that could be used for promotion in case of collaboration.

LAST CALL – UNPLUGGED DANCE | CALL FOR WORKSHOPS | SEASON AUGUST-SEPTEMBER
10.2.2022
Unplugged Dance has extended its open call until 15th of February!
We are currently looking for dance artists, researchers or educators in the field of dance and other practices of embodiment that are interested in sharing a workshop.
Where: Neochori, Lefkada, Greece
When: One week, during 22nd of August to 11th of September, the week will be determined in mutual consultation
Deadline for applications: February 15, 2022
Unplugged dance is having its first open call, and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Unplugged Dance is a newborn dance platform focusing on research and education, based in the village of Neochori, Lefkada. This artist lead initiative was inspired by Kyveli Kouvatsi and Giorgos Sioras Deligiannis with the aim of exploring the present independent dance scene, its ways and methods, its interests and togethernesses. Their own quest in research and education made even more important and vivid the need to connect with similar individuals that pursue a way of doing what they do with care and with the intention of sharing and communicating it. The arterial idea of Unplugged Dance has sprung from a yearning to connect dance as a practice of embodiment and other relative practices with a vivid community, in a sustainable and decentralized way that preserves the independent nature of the enterprise.
The upcoming summer Unplugged Dance will host three weeks of workshops and classes among other activities in the serene village of Neochori in Lefkada, Greece. During a full week of workshops the participants will have the chance to deepen their knowledge in contemporary practices that subjectify the corporal experience and yet are specific in method.
This first open call is seeking original workshops that emerge from personal research and are linked with practices of embodiment. Candidates must have a research of their own to share, one that leads to a specific method, methodology or simply a way of doing what they do. No special degrees are required nor years of experience, yet they will be asked to share relative material online in any way they prefer and share it through a google drive folder. If the proposed workshop has never been presented before, a more analytical presentation would be appreciated.
Conditions:
Leading a workshop in english in two seperate groups for six days (a total of 24 hours)
We provide:
Payment of 960 euro for the teacher (cost for invoice payment only)
Room to stay in the village
Three meals per day for seven days
For foreign teachers, a part of their travel expenses can be paid after arrangement

Dearest, most beautiful people,
Thank you for the past two weeks, how nice really were. From your sharing, to the environment, to the shared meals, the people … endless inspiration! So much to digest, and yet I’m already looking forward to the next chapter!
“… This has been an incredible experience and I feel extremely grateful to have laughed, cried and danced with beautiful people in a nourishing environment. This place is very special and I look forward to returning and meeting one another once again in the mountains! Much love! “
I feel so lucky to have been a part of the first Unplugged Dance and see such a beautiful space unfold with creative people with all over … this is an expereince I’ ll never forget and a view I won’t either. I will miss everyone but hope to see or have paths crossed again.
